Coins, gems and Motes

Shop & Economy

Aether Chronicles is free to play. You earn coins just by playing, gems from quests and the season track, and Motes from duplicates. This page lists exactly what everything costs and what's inside every pack.

The three currencies

Coins

Earned by playing

Won in every match and mode. Spend them on Standard Packs, Weekly Singles and many cosmetics. Coins can't be bought.

Gems

Premium

Earned from Daily Trials, quests, achievements, the Covenant track, the Daily Fortune and ranked seasons. Spend them on Premium and Legendary Packs, Collector's Tins, Covenant premium, alt arts, titles, emotes, sleeves and deck slots.

Motes

Crafting

Made from duplicate cards, and earned from quests, achievements, the Covenant and set rewards. Spend them to craft any card you're missing.

A new account starts with 500 coins, 100 gems and 0 Motes.

The Shop

The Aether Chronicles Shop
The Shop has five shelves: All, Packs, Tins, Singles and Style. The Daily Free Pack banner sits on top whenever it's ready.

Daily Free Pack

Every day you get one free Standard Pack. Tap the purple banner at the top of the Shop. It resets at 00:00 UTC.

Card packs

Every pack holds 5 cards. The first four slots are random; the fifth has a guaranteed minimum rarity on the better packs (a lower roll is promoted up to the floor, not rerolled).

The last three columns are the game's own disclosed odds: the chance a single pack holds at least one card of that rarity or better. Tap the ? next to the pity bars in the Shop to see them in game.

  • Every set is in packs except The Covenant, The Chronicle and Sealed Promos (those are earned). That includes the newest sets, Wyrmroost and Dunemere.
  • Buy 1, 5 or 10 at a time. There's no bulk discount, but free packs you've banked are used up first.

Pity: guaranteed Legendaries and Mythics

110 cards(about 22 packs) without a Legendary, and the next card is one
250 cards(about 50 packs) without a Mythic, and the next card is one
  • The two bars at the bottom of the Packs shelf count cards, not packs: each pack moves them by 5.
  • The counters are shared across every pack type, including your daily free pack and the packs inside Tins.
  • Pulling a Legendary any way at all (natural, pity or a Legendary Pack's guaranteed slot) resets the Legendary counter. A Mythic resets both.
  • The pack-opening screen shows both counters along the top as well.

Duplicates become Motes

A pack never gives you a second copy of a card you already own. Instead, the duplicate turns straight into Motes. The same goes for Weekly Singles, Tin promos and the Daily Fortune.

Common5 Motes40 Motes
Uncommon20100
Rare50400
Epic100800
Legendary4003,200
Mythic1,60012,800

Because packs only ever give your first copy, the extra copies for a full playset (a second Rare, a third or fourth Common) are crafted. There is no way to break cards down for Motes.

Opening a pack

Swipe across the pack to tear it, or tap to open. Cards are dealt face down: tap each to flip it, or press Reveal all. New cards wear a green NEW! tag, Legendaries and Mythics get their own fanfare, and the guaranteed slot is marked. The Summary lists everything you pulled, your new cards, Motes from duplicates, and buttons to Open another or Share your pull as a designed image.

Collector's Tins

"A sealed tin: four packs, plus one card the tin is the only way to get." Each tin costs 500 gems and contains 4 Premium Packs (400 gems' worth) plus an exclusive foil Legendary found in no pack. The packs are banked so you can open them whenever you like.

Buying the same tin again pays its card out as 400 Motes, since you already own it.

Weekly Singles

"Hand-picked cards, bought outright. A fresh five every week." Five specific cards (three Commons and two Rares) for coins: 75 coins for a Common and 200 coins for a Rare. Everyone sees the same five, each can be bought once per week, and the shelf refreshes every Thursday at 00:00 UTC. A card you already own pays out as Motes instead.

Your first 5 wins each day in Practice and other quick-play matches pay full coins; after that, quick-play coins drop to a quarter. Story, Daily Trial, Tournament, Arena Draft, Dungeon Delve and online matches don't count toward that limit. Grades are based 60% on how many Soul Points you kept and 40% on how fast you won. See Progression for the details.

Spending wisely

  • Open your free pack every day. It counts toward pity like any other pack.
  • Use Standard Packs for collection, Motes for decks. Packs only give first copies, so once you know what you want to play, craft the extra copies.
  • Craft Commons and Uncommons for playsets; they're cheap (40 and 100 Motes) and form the backbone of most decks.
  • Save gems for what only gems buy: the Covenant premium track, Legendary Packs, Tins and extra deck slots.
  • Play the Daily Trial every day. The streak raises its rewards to 325 coins and 20 gems by day 10.
  • Check Weekly Singles on Thursdays for cheap Rares you need.
